Visiting the Black Hills Region

As winter gives way to spring, communities throughout South Dakota's western reaches welcome visitors with a variety of ways to have fun outdoors. The opportunities for adventure are endless in the Mount Rushmore State's five national parks, and special events, festivals, iconic attractions and historic sites, family-friendly activities, and more await visitors from communities from Sturgis to Rapid City to Wall.

Warming weather means it's a great time to see the Mt. Rushmore National Memorial, one of the nation's most famous attractions. Stay in Custer or Hill City to be just minutes from the park's visitor center and the Lincoln Borglum Museum – and make sure to explore the the Presidential Trail to find all sorts of information on the sculpture itself and the men it depicts.

In Rapid City, the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center boasts an eclectic array of first-rate entertainment this spring. On March 3rd, country music fans amble over to see Brantley Gilbert perform hits like "Kick It in the Sticks" and "You Don't Know Her Like I Do." The house starts rockin' at 7 p.m.

Later that week, the Harlem Globetrotters bring their very own brand of awe-inspiring antics to the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. All the funny business, flashy passes, trick shots, and acrobatic dunks delight basketball fans young and old at 7 p.m. on March 7th. Get your tickets before they sell out.

Downtown Deadwood comes alive on March 18th and 19th. The 2016 Deadwood St. Patrick's Day Weekend promises everything from the Kegs & Eggs Breakfast to the 3rd Annual Leprechaun Olympics at Oyster Bay. Don't forget to wear your green.

Foodies from Spearfish and Sturgis to Rapid City and beyond flock to Deadwood for the 2016 Forks, Corks, and Kegs Food & Wine Festival. Savor samples of a variety of craft beers and fine wines along with their perfect food pairings – and a few other Black Hills favorites. Now in its second year, the festival is held in various tasting venues all across town, March 7th through 9th. Check local listings during your visit to make sure you don't miss out on any of the fun.
