Universities in South Dakota

Check Out the University of Sioux Falls and the Surrounding Attractions

college graduates

Visit an impressive array of universities in VA.

Sioux Falls is a popular travel destination in eastern South Dakota – and with top attractions like the Sioux Falls JazzFest, and the Great Plains Zoo, it's easy to see why.

While those attractions and others make visiting Sioux Falls a top-notch choice, you might be surprised to find the University of Sioux Falls is a pleasant and fun of a reason to visit.

Established in 1883, the University of Sioux Falls is private, liberal arts school originally known as the Dakota Collegiate Institute.

It was 1995 when the school officially became the University of Sioux Falls.

As you explore the Sioux Falls area, plan for a tour of the USF campus – ideal for you and your soon-to-be high school graduate. Be sure to check out the Mears Library Gallery and the Jeschke Fine Arts Gallery – two of the best ways to experience the collective works of USF's most promising artists.

Travel in from nearby cities like Canistota or Vermillion and check out the campus – you'll also find a wide range of exciting area attractions. If you're planning on a two-winged entrance, you'll most likely land at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport.

A drive west along Interstate 90 will lead you to Mitchell, home of the Corn Palace. One of the most unique attractions you'll visit while in South Dakota, the Corn Palace pays tribute to SD's agricultural heritage.

Closer to the USF campus, discover a wealth of exciting college sports games and matches. The USF Cougars have 17 varsity level sports teams competing in football, basketball, soccer, softball and even golf – just to name a handful. All of the USF teams compete within the Great Plains Athletic Conference, which is under the umbrella of the NAIA.

During your fall visit to Sioux Falls, head for Bob Young Field for an exciting USF Cougars football game, or check out the Stewart Center for the high-flying action of college basketball. In the spring, try to catch a foul ball at Harmondon Park, home of the USF Cougars baseball team.
